Standard Specification for Free-Cutting Copper Rod, Bar, Wire, and Shapes
This specification establishes the requirements for free-cutting copper rod, bar, wire, and shapes of UNS Alloy Nos. C14500, C14510, C14520, C14700, and C18700, suitable for high-speed screw machine work or for general applications. The chemical composition, temper, electrical, tensile strength, and elongation requirements are detailed.
MATERIALS: 1. C14500: This copper material, also known as tellurium copper, consists of a chemical composition of 99.5% copper and 0.5% tellurium. It possesses good machinability and high electrical conductivity. With excellent hot and cold workability, C14500 is widely used in electrical components, welding electrodes, and thermal conductors due to its superior strength and conductivity.
2. C14510: Known as tellurium bearing copper, C14510 contains 99.5% copper and 0.7% tellurium, offering improved machinability compared to other copper alloys. Alongside increased electrical and thermal conductivity, it showcases excellent formability, strength, and corrosion resistance. As a result, C14510 is extensively employed in electrical connectors, switch components, and welding equipment for its enhanced performance during fabrication and service life.
3. C14520: Also referred to as tellurium copper, C14520 consists of 99.1% copper, 0.41% tellurium, and 0.49% . This alloy combines high electrical and thermal conductivity with improved machinability and excellent resistance against atmospheric corrosion. C14520 finds applications in electrical connectors, electronic components, and heat exchangers, owing to its enhanced performance in electrical and thermal transfer systems.
4. C14700: This copper material, namely sulfide stress cracking-resistant copper, consists mainly of 99.25% copper with trace amounts of sulfur. It offers high electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as excellent mechanical properties and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. C14700 is commonly used in oil and gas industry equipment, such as valves, connectors, and tubes, where resistance to sulfide environments and corrosion cracking is crucial.
5. C18700: Known as a copper-zinc-aluminum-nickel-silicon alloy, C18700 is mainly composed of 77.5% copper, 17% zinc, 3.2% aluminum, 1.8% nickel, and 0.5% silicon. It exhibits excellent electrical conductivity, high strength, and good resistance to stress relaxation fatigue. C18700 is extensively employed in electrical applications requiring high strength and electrical conductivity, including connectors, terminals, and bus bars.
