Mold steel can be roughly divided into: cold-rolled mold steel, hot-rolled mold steel and plastic mold steel, which are used for forging, stamping, cutting, die-casting, etc. Due to the different uses of various molds and complex working conditions, the steel used for molds, according to the working conditions of the molds manufactured, should have high hardness, strength, wear resistance, sufficient toughness, as well as high hardenability, hardenability and other process properties. Due to the different uses and complex working conditions, the performance requirements for mold steel are also different.
When processing molds, due to the wide use of molds, the working conditions of various molds vary greatly, so the manufacturing of mold materials is very wide, and the most widely used in mold materials is mold steel. From the general carbon structural steel, carbon tool steel, alloy structural steel, alloy tool steel, spring steel, high-speed tool steel, stainless heat-resistant steel to martensitic aging steel that meets the needs of special molds, powder high-speed steel, powder high alloy mold steel, etc. Mold steel can be generally divided into three categories: cold work mold steel, hot work mold steel and plastic mold steel according to its use.

H13 steel is the most widely used and representative hot work die steel. Its main characteristics are:
(1) High hardenability and high toughness;
(2) Excellent heat crack resistance, water cooling in the workplace;
(3) It has moderate wear resistance, and can also use carburizing or nitriding process to improve its surface hardness, but
slightly reduce the hot cracking resistance;
(4) Because of its low carbon content, the secondary hardening ability in tempering is poor;
(5) It has softening resistance at higher temperature, but the hardness decreases rapidly when the service temperature is higher
than 540 ºC (1000 ºF) (i.e. the working temperature of the capacity is 540 ºC);
(6) The deformation of heat treatment is small;
(7) Medium and high machinability;
(8) Moderate decarburization resistance.
More importantly, it can also be used to make important components in the aviation industry.
